Louis G. Cornacchia, M.D, FAANS, F.A.C.S.

Dr. Louis G. Cornacchia, a Fellow of both the American Academy of Neurological Surgery and the American College of Surgeons, boasts over two decades of experience in spine and cranial surgery. He completed his training at prestigious institutions like Columbia University, NYU School of Medicine, and UCSD, where he also earned an in-residence joint orthopedic/neurosurgical spine fellowship.

Throughout his career, Dr. Cornacchia has held leadership positions as the Chief of Neurosurgery at three esteemed hospitals: Mercy Medical Center, Hempstead General Medical Center, and Brookdale University Medical Center. He has also served as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Neurosurgery at New York-Presbyterian Cornell and later as an Assistant Professor of Neurosurgery at Weill-Cornell Medical Center.

Dr. Cornacchia's expertise lies in the innovative use of robotic spine technologies to treat patients with complex spine-related issues. He has made significant contributions to the field by publishing numerous neurosurgery and neuroscience research articles and securing over two dozen patents.

In the present day, Dr. Cornacchia is a leading authority on robotic spine surgery, which has revolutionized the treatment of spine problems. By replacing intra-operative CT scans with navigation, and subsequently fluoroscopy-guided surgery, he has significantly improved success rates. Early success rates in the 1990s were around 65%, which rose to 70-80% with the integration of navigation and an O-arm in the early 2000s. Today, these success rates have reached an impressive ninety percent or higher, measured by improved function, the ability to walk over 7500 steps, and the ability to return to work.

Dr. Cornacchia's expertise, combined with the advancements in robotics and nearly three decades of neurosurgical experience, has enabled him to achieve remarkable results for his patients. He successfully addresses back pain, neurologic deficits, and returns his patients to work and active family life, meeting the expectations and needs of both insurers and patients.
